About Us

Founded in 2005, The Friday Project focuses on developing brilliant books from the most exciting and innovative web sites, properties and content. We published three books in October 2005 and by the end of 2006 had published 24 titles. We have 45 planned for 2007 and even more for next year. How do we stand the pace?

Well, our editorial team is small but perfectly formed. Editorial independence means a lot to us, but of course, so do sales (cha-ching), which is why our sales and distribution is handled by Pan Macmillan, giving us huge national and international reach. We’ve formed creative partnerships across the globe, building relationships with overseas publishers, TV, film and radio production companies and merchandising groups. We want our books to reach as wide an audience as possible and this network of colleagues allows us to do just that.

The Editorial Team

Clare Christian    MD and Publishing Director

Clare has worked in publishing for a Very Long Time. Prior to co-founding TFP in 2005 she had worked as a small cog in the vast corporate wheels of several of the larger publishing houses in the UK. She had been planning her escape for some time.

She loves books but hates writing biographies in the third person.
Read her Girl Friday blog here.

Scott Pack    Commercial Director

Scott Pack was the controversial buying manager at Waterstone’s for six years before joining The Friday Project as commercial director. He writes very occasionally (about once a year) for The Times, once a month in his column for industry magazine The Bookseller and more or less every day at his
blog, Me And My Big Mouth.

Heather Smith    Publishing Editor

Heather Smith has worked in publishing for what seems like A While now. She loves working at TFP, Columbo and nice authors (in that order). She is quite partial to sparkly things and the odd chocolate bar… and has been known to accept bribes.

Clare Weber    Editor

Despite once accidentally unplugging the server to watch Neighbours, Clare is still employed by TFP and enjoys every minute of it. Having worked in publishing for A Fair While now, she loves books, working with lovely authors and KayFM.

She is convinced that her MA in Publishing means that she's clever.

Madeleine James     Editorial Assistant

Having been obsessed with books - but not in a geeky way - for Quite Some Time, Maddy rather enjoys working with them every day. This is her first job in publishing, which she fully intends to keep via a combination of tea-making and chocolate-buying (and perhaps a bit of hard work). She loves Hollyoaks and football, but don’t hold that against her.
